Northeast Minnesota is making progress in attracting a younger workforce.
According to a report from IRRRB, industries like mining are now employing more people under the age of 45 than they were in 2003. In fact, mining has undergone the most dramatic change. Almost 70 percent of the workforce used to be over 45. Now, it’s less than half.
IRRRB Commissioner Tony Sertich said they have an important role to play with educational partners to make sure students are trained for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
