Minnesota iron contributes to increased state exports

Mining and manufacturing played a vital role in a successful fourth quarter of Minnesota exports, according to a Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) report released Tuesday.

The report, shared by the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota, shows iron ore was the primary driver behind a 75 percent increase in ores, slag and ash exports in the 4th quarter of 2017. $88 million in exports of these resources was recorded.

 Additionally, Minnesota businesses exported $5.3 billion worth of mining, manufactured, and agricultural products in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to DEED’s report. This represents a six percent increase from the previous year. Annually, between 2016 and 2017, Minnesota exports increased almost 8 percent to $20.6 billion.
