Learn about taconite mining and processing with a comprehensive tour to Hibbing Taconite provided by Minnesota Discovery Center, Hibbing Taconite and Shubat Transportation. Departing from Minnesota Discovery Center, tours are offered Thursday’s available from June 26th through August 8th. You may board the bus between 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The bus departs promptly at 1:00 p.m. and will take you to see the operations of a modern mine. From the gigantic shovels loading 3-story, 240-ton trucks to the ore being converted into taconite pellets and being loaded on the train, the tour will give you an inside perspective of mining. Cost for the tour is $5 per person. No photographs allowed while on Hibbing Taconite property. Tour suitable for kids ages 12 and up. Kids ages 10 and 11 may be accepted based on bus driver’s discretion. The tour is approximately 2 hours long. Experience mining on the Iron Range.
