SME Conference funding approved for Dislocated Workers (DW) through Workforce Centers
The 89th Annual Meeting of the Minnesota Section of SME is the top performing regional minerals conference in the Midwest featuring a wide range of session topics addressing pressing industry issues, emerging industry trends and latest industry technology
development. The conference is hosted annually in Duluth, Minnesota and has a long history of being one of the top performing regional conferences in the iron ore industry. In addition to three days of training, technical discussions, trade show, networking events and keynotes (including
Congressman Nolan), SME 2016 conference programming has been expanded to add sessions focused on mine operator and maintenance personnel technical and training needs, including:
- Mining Operations: Production, Safety and Efficiencies. What’s in it for me? (short course)
- Including Track Type Tractor, Wheel Loader & Mining Truck simulators
- Slurry Pumping – Basic Hydraulics, Wear and Troubleshooting Case Studies (short course)
- Mining & Mill Operations (technical track)
- Miner’s Health Study (Mesothelioma) (technical track)
- Reliability Maintenance Planning (technical track)
Dislocated Worker covered expenses can include:
- Cost of conference registration
- Daycare expenses
- Short‐course training session fees
- Mileage to and from Duluth ($0.25/mile)
- Networking luncheon
- $50/night towards hotel
- Some additional meal reimbursements (depending on what is provided at the conference)
Prior to SME MN Conference registration:
Laid off individuals already DW registered ‐ contact case manager for registration authorization.
Those not yet DW enrolled need to attend a program orientation/enrollment session, at a local Workforce Center, to qualify for registration authorization and covered conference expenses.
DW orientation and enrollment sessions are conducted at Range Area Workforce Centers ‐ located at:
